Kells Becomes A Police Recruit...Even Blagojevich Pauses In Disgust

Well I'm very happy to say I got the best X-Mas gift I could have ever asked for. Recently I received news that in January 2009 I will officially start the police academy (13 weeks) pending the results of my medical exam tomorrow. To say I'm overcome with joy is an understatement. This is something I've wanted for quite a while. Law enforcement not only brings job security and a great pension, but more importantly it brings a sheer thrill of excitement. I love the the fact that everyday a law enforcement officer goes to work; he or she doesn't know what to expect. Spending 8 hours in a boring cubicle just isn't my thing. I've always felt I needed to do something a bit more demanding and challenging. Think about it, what's more challenging than putting your life on the line everyday in one of the most dangerous parts of Illinois.

You would think this would be all there is to the story, but that's not even the icing on the cake....it gets better....much better. The most exciting part is my best friend will be right by my side through the entire process! Yes, that's right - Angelo will also be joining me at the academy for the exact same department. It's almost like a movie right? I don't think Steven Spielberg could of wrote a better script.

Moving on, today Angelo and I were told to meet at our police department for a brief meeting. Well the meeting was anything but brief. We alongside 8 other recruits discussed everything from what to expect in the academy, to what to do when media tries to question us about certain situations. We were also told for the 100th time of how dangerous some of the calls are for the department we work for. We were given one last chance to quit if we found this (getting shot at, constant gang activity, being alone 12AM at night in potentially the most dangerous part of our area etc.) to be too much. Outside of the massive paperwork, and vigorous rules the meeting went pretty well.

Because I like to plan ahead, it's time for me to really sit down and contemplate on not only "change" but "growth" as well. Being that I'm a constant thinker I plan on making a strong effort to start a family within the near future. I won't go into specific details but I will say life is short, therefore I can't take anything for granted.

Dreadfully, I have somewhat sad news for the readers here at LiT. Although I love this website, I think it's time for me to drastically change the content. Now that I'm going into law enforcement I realize there will be a magnifying glass on comments I make both in publicly, and in private. I doubt that I'll totally delete the website, however there will be some major changes over the course of the next several weeks. For those of you who have been following this website since it's creation in 2006, you've got to experience the transition of a teenager grow into a young man. Therefore I feel the direction of the website has to grow as well. The comedic satire and questionable comments will slowly fade away. This website will take a more personal look into my life, and how certain situations apply to me.

Final Thought: It's hard to believe when I applied there was well over 200 applicants, it's amazing that I've made it in the top 10 (# 3 to be exact). I don't think reality has set in yet, but when it does - I plan on celebrating.

Speaking of celebrations, for those of you who have been invited to the upcoming Gala, please don't mention any details in the comments.

Wow...congrats Steve!!!!! I'm always happy to see a young black male really on his grind. Especially since you guys are a rarity these days. I wish you and your boy the best in all your endeavors. Don't be so shocked. The CPD should be glad to have someone of your caliber with them. You're an asset to them just as their job security to you.

Now that you'll have a stable secure career, forming a family is in line. I wish you the best in that as well!

Sidenote: Will you be able to erase parking tickets? Just joking.LOL

I feel like crying tears of joy. For the both of us to come up and witness what we both experienced in our past is a dream come true. This is something that we both wanted and it came through. This is the best Christmas gift that I didn't expect.

I respect the fact of you wanting to start a family (that's a grown man state of mind). My only regret is that I have to start over or do a conjoined family. Now, I have to really be very careful.

Phil- This it yo, we did it. Your last vacation home, I made an Oath to you (and I never broke My Word). A lot of things are about to take place. We in our careers so now is the time WE capitalize.

Thanks for the support, LiT appreciates the love.

Food for Thought: Time is TRULY of the essence!

Cutie S - The last time you seen me, I was a little knuckle headed teenager. As you’ve read, times have definitely changed.

Matt - Let's get this money Mr. Cobbins. So in the words of Deputy Richard Ross, "we can sit back on the boat and laugh at *expletive*."

Nah, but in all seriousness. Lawyers, detectives, politicians...let's just take it to another level. I'm glad we made it out the fire, it's too many scumbags we used to hang around that eny our lifestyle. Let’s keep moving forward and never look back.

Congrats on law school. Remember, if you can't beat the system join the system.

A. Red - Why thank you. Now that Barack Obama is in office, there's no more blaming failure on race. It's time that more brothas step forward and take responsibility for their futures. Although the complexity of life seems difficult at times, just strap on the harness and keep moving forward.

Angelo - I told you the plan two years ago, I'm just glad you trusted me enough to stick with it. Now it's time to reap the benefits Recruit Davies.

...I can't wait to work side by side with you during anything from a routine traffic stop, to a high priority arrest warrant. This is what it’s all about; this is what we signed up for.

As for "Freaky" (Phil), he already knows it's room for him where ever we go. This is more than a movement; it’s lifestyle. So hurry up back Phil so we can set you up right.

Lynda - Just for the record, pre-nups are a must. I've already researched thoroughly them, and played around with a couple of templates. It's not that I'm planning for marital failure, but I just think the wife should leave with what she came with....nothing more, nothing less.

Fresh - Thanks for the love...now you know whats next right? It's time to pop bottles!
