Obama Wins: Just More Proof That An Oprah Winfrey Endorsement Is More Powerful Than Prayer

This is my 2nd election I've participated in. Unlike my 1st in 2004, this election means an awful lot to me. It would have taken everything short of a bullet dislodging into my cranium to stop me from voting. The early bird gets the worm, so with that in mind I voted around 6AM this morning. As of a result of my prompt sense of urgency to vote, I only waited a total of 15 minutes.
I remember growing up as a child and hearing elders constantly remind me there will never be a "Black President" in my lifetime.
I wasn't offended, I just didn't understand why. I was too young to understand the significant mistreatment my people have endured in the past history of the United States. Sure I've read about the inhumane treatment during slavery and the struggles we had with freedom, but "reading" and "experiencing" are two different things. Before her death in January 2008, my grandmother always carried a chip on her shoulder when it came to this country. At every chance she could she would echo her frustration with me. It took years for me to realize my grandmother was only 1 generation removed from segregation, when Blacks weren't allowed to vote let alone read. With that said, going into my adulthood I've learn to accept the past as a blemish in history and move on. I've never been the type of person to blame racial oppression on social problems, or use my race as a justification towards my short-comings. Sure racism is still alive but America is obviously taking steps in the right direction by electing Senator Barack Obama as it's 44th President of the United States.
Obama brings something new to the table that other Black political figures seem to lack. No longer will our race of people be judged by Jesse Jackson's antics, or Rev Al Sharpton's boycotts. No longer will Bill Clinton be referred to as America's 1st Black President. Instead we have a voice that not only speaks for Black people, but America as a whole. It seems as if Obama has bridged the gap between social equality as well as racial barriers. Much of what he has already done has shaped the attitude of many Americans, so I'm sure his presidency will continue to embark on that pattern.
Final Thought: The irony that a man who based his whole campaign around "change" and "family values" loses his Grandmother one day before the election is proof that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. A citizen of my city, a member of my church, and now the president of my country. Congratulations Obama from everyone here at the LiT Family!

You should really consider journalism. With a couple classes, and perhaps a top notch editor you writings would no longer be "blogs" that go unappreciated. My advice is forget becoming a cop, and focus on something more true to your heart. Also stop wasting our time with the pointless photos of you indulging in promiscuity and senseless tomfoolery. You're much better than that. The content you write about proves that. Your blog has gone from a center of information (as shown in 2006-2007) to a whore house of narcissism (as shown in 2008).
Congratulations to President Obama!!
tomfoolery: Pronunciation: \ˌtäm-ˈfül-rē, -ˈfü-lə-\
Function: noun
Date: 1812
: playful or foolish behavior
Not by a long shot BUDDY!!
so what you are saying is that because Steven give's an actual dipiction of the daily happenings in not only his but OUR lifestyle, and our trials and tribulations as young black men that he's foolish. Ok so let me guess...he should tighten it up right...be more politically correct hugh!!...OK..well here's some politically correct jargon for your ass, walk a mile in a young black man's shoe's and see what we see before you tell my partner why he shouldn't be a police officer....yeah we are intelligent..intelligent enough to that things are changed fom the inside out, and each one of us is playing our role..."whore house of narcissism"..hardly...REAL TALK is more like it, except what we are and what we do and prepare for a new generation that can articulate themselves well, and still have a good fuckin time.
P.S. Forward all hate mail to matt@kellsfetish.com
Congratulations Barack Obama!
HiStOry Has been Made!!!!!!!! ObAmA 08 Babyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!
Matt goes HARD!!!
GET EM'
Who the is Josh Andrews ANYWAY???
ANYWAYS... NEXT!!!!
I was all teary eyed last night watching his speech! I know it sounds corny BUT I was actually proud of being an American last night!
I’m a Director for a media outlet in the Chicago metropolitan area, that's who I am Lynda.
As for Matt, tomfoolery is the best way to describe a 22 year old that has the mind capacity of a professor yet deprives himself of escalating his ideas by retreating to a land of ignorance and self bewilderment. Being Black has nothing to do with this. Yesterday’s election is proof that anything’s possible. Don’t suppress yourself with mediocrity when you can excel in superiority. You understand? I’ve been reading this blog well over a year. It’s obvious “Steven Kells” is deliberately dumbing down subject matters as well as overall content. If you don’t believe me go into the archives and look for yourself. I’m not being cynical I’m trying to challenge the author to be more creative.
It’s no coincidence that most of the readers here aren’t interactive. This isn’t an environment for ideas & debate. This has become a pigpen for all of you who know him personally. I could go on and on but I have a job to do.
Is Josh taking my shit starting job?
Yay Obama!!

Oddly enough, I can see and grasp what Mr. Andrews means, but perhaps you (Mr. Andrews) should consider contacting him through email. It would probably be more productive and garner a better response. Putting someone "on blast" as we youths like to say, is not the best of ideas.
Kells, you go to Apostolic? I would say I'm surprised I don't see you buuut it's a big church so eh. IDK, I don't really see what the difference is now that we have an African-American President. The same whites that weren't racist before are still not racist. The same whites that were will remain so.
Either way, I'm holding my breath to see implementation of Obama's ideas before I start my victory dance.
WOW!!!!
I’m a Director for a media outlet in the Chicago metropolitan area, that's who I am Lynda
Did that make you feel better about yourself honey???
I'm not even going to entertain you...since you have to go back to your job .....as Steven Kells's career advisor!!! Please stop while you're ahead because when I start someone else will finish you off...
The nerve of this guy!!!! WHO reads and keeps up with a blog AN ENTIRE YEAR and only comments when he finally reads something that wasn't to his liking!!!
APPARENTLY JOSH!!!!!!
Matt : I think yesterday the race card expired
likeBrandy : you must be really old to have picked cotton
Josh: I get what your saying, but I can't say i know what you mean exactly i didn't look as far back as 2007 cause Im new to this blog
You combine a little humor, politics and everyday life in this blog. It kinda reminds me of your first blog hovas.net, but this one is better!
Oomgosh Likebrandy your such a hypocrite!!!!!! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Question
How isn’t everyday life entertaining when you talk about it all the time???????????
I think if this were a talk show a couple of people would be too intimidated by a face to face discussion or debate to even voice their opinion. I can recall you usually say "great post, Steven". I think we have a hypocrite.......hhmmmm.
Politics and Humor are everyday life. The funny things that we hear and see throughout the day inspire all things humorous and politics play a part in our lives every day. So saying everyday life doesn't entertain me is a bit silly.
I think everyone is jumping on Josh for giving a little constructive criticism. There are a few people I know of that follow LIT and Hovas.net and have never commented.
Yea S. Monroe that card has def expired LOL
Ok so I see that complacency can be TOXIC!!... I will break it down a little further….this proverbial “race card” that you all are referring to is actually a state of mind that some…”SOME” people have and when it’s convenient they use it to excuse themselves from being LOSERS. The context that I used “walk a mile in a young black man's shoe's and see what we see before you tell my partner why he shouldn't be a police officer” in was to explain to Josh Andrews that even though Steven’s writing is important to him what we have seen has hard wired something in him that compels him to become an Officer of the Law, so that he can do his part to make his community a better place to live in……nowhere in my comment did I say that Black people have it harder….NOWHERE… I am referencing Steve’s passion for becoming a Police Officer when it seemed that Mr. Andrews was discarding that all together. So I wasn’t using the “Race Card” I was stating facts about personal experience’s and the way that they have shaped our lives…”coincidentally” we are young, and we are African American so I used the term Young Black Male to describe us so sue me.
It amazes me how a post featuring the inauguration of President-Elect Obama could result in such blatant ignorance. You would think that the content of this post would sway a few of you to uncharacteristically bring some decency to an already profound topic. The name callings, fraudulent profiles (identical IPs mixed with a little research can reveal a lot…moron), and over assertive commentary is really unbecoming of some of you.
…But as always I have to remind many of you, “we’re adults.” From the outside looking in this reminds me of some random FaceBook’s wall commentary fueled by irrational opinions and tampered emotions.
Josh Andrews - Thank you for the effort as well as the concerns. Although your criticism comes off somewhat discourteous I really appreciate the feedback. I’m not saying I agree with you, but again I understand your concerns. It’s not typical that a reader admits his frustration with the content featured on this website.
….With that said, I don’t follow a certain criteria when I brainstorm topics on this website. There will be times when I “challenge the reader,” and there will be times when I offend the reader. That’s the brilliancy behind expressing my imagination. If you don’t like it, we have a theme here at LiT that we tend to use in disagreements. It’s the called the art of “kicking rocks” – you should try it sometime. With the proper technique even you too can be successful.
Cutie S - I still can’t believe you aren’t drinking the Obama Kool-Aid yet. Com’on, it tastes so good. It tastes like the red flavor……no not strawberry, watermelon, or fruit punch…..red! You know red, the flavor featured in 7 out of 10 African American house holds in America. See example below.
“HEY TAMEEKA!” - Tyrone
“WHAT YOU WANT BOY!” - Tameeka
“Ma grab me a red pop out the refrigerator” - Tyrone
“Ok, as soon as Real Housewives of ATL go on commercial I will boo” – Tameeka
LikeBrandy - Surprisingly I don’t think a talk show would be that entertaining. There’s something about a keyboard that brings out the courageous responses from individuals who normally lack the psychological aggressive attitudes featured on this website. That’s what makes the responses from each and every one of you equally entertaining. You’re a Psych major right? Perhaps you can chime in and use factual information to support my thesis.
And for the record I like to refer to viewers as “readers.” Using the term “fan” seems a bit preposterous. I highly doubt anyone that frequents this website is obsessed with anything to do with me. It’s more of a mutual thing, I use them for feedback, and they use me for laughs. Just like my past relationships, we all benefit in the end…..some more than others.
Brittani - Hovas.net was entirely too demanding for a 16 year old. Although I had about 80% more content on Hovas.net – I tend to enjoy this website more also.
Matt - Seems someone got under your skin huh? Just remember it’s extremely difficult to paint the picture as we see it.
….Remember it’s not who laughs the loudest, but who laughs last. Every day is just another giggle big homie.
lol @ how josh said "wasting our time" as if he or any of us for that matter are obligated to read this blog. WHAT? seriously...WHAT??
IN RESPONSE TO LIKEBRANDY: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH….. YOU’RE BORING AT THIS POINT!
Once again ignorance is bliss……..gosh
I personally think next time you need to be clearer on what your talking about, because this causes people to misconstrue what you say. This blog doesn’t just cater to you, it’s for everyone to share their ideas and so forth. THIS has nothing to do with you not being entertained with the author’s everyday life.
However, you don’t have to reframe from saying anything to me directly, unless those where your directions to do so.
Reframe? "D'oh!"
I swear. There might not be a single thing that I loathe more than when a person tries to come off as being more intelligent than they actually are. Let's get some Webster's in our lives. Next to The Bible, it's the best book out. I'm sorry Kells, I know this has nothing to do with the blog entry but I simply couldn't REFRAIN. :)
"There might not be a single thing that I loathe more than when a person tries to come off as being more intelligent than they actually are." - Sacha L
LOL...I'm guilty as charged when it comes to that. I never proof read, it takes entirely too many brain cells.
...and don't even get me started on appearing to be intelligent. LMAO!
I can't recall ever telling you what you think, but i do recall trying to follow that train of thought for a little better understanding.
I think Josh is a bit frustrated with the direction this blog is taking, but a blog's direction is entirely up to the author. You can have an opinion but in the end it doesn't really matter.
DAMN!! R..E...F..R..A..M...E, WTF
thanks for straightning that whole thing out sasha. (just wondering)If you reframe something does that mean that the photo came out of the frame.
@ steve: I KNOW!! AS I WAS TYPING I WAS THINKING...This is the blog of a no-spelling negro. But at least you know! THAT ONE on the other hand...
@ anony: I think you might be right. but in this case i think the intelligence fell out of the brain. maybe that's what she meant all along? WHO EFFING KNOWS!
Newspapers have been selling out all over the world with the landslide VICTORY. There have been many long lines that people have waited in, just to get a piece of history. In one case scenario, there actually was a fight over a newspaper and I got cursed out this morning for buying 8 copies of the Chicago Sun-Times.
I just visited EBay to check the price of the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper featuring Barack Obama (11/5/2008). So far the highest priced paper was about $100. That's a pretty nice penny for something that was orginally sold at 50 cent.
Wow I do love when people can't find a comeback zero in on a minor error. Good for you guys!!
Anon: Love my spell checkers!! Actually when you reframe something you take the picture out the frame and place it in a new one. Just to clarify.
I think someone rallied up a few friends for that one word. Getting desperate? I think yes!
P.S.
Sacha: Love those VINTAGE (four seasons old) Louboutins too bad they are outshined by those cankles!!!
Well, with the highest price going for $100, I have about 6 copies of the Novemnber 5, 2008 issue and I'll sell 5 at this point just to keep one for myself. Yesterday's edition November 10, 2008 was a topic on the news this morning and people was pissed because they were sold out. I got some and I can get some more.
-The only thing is, I'm not letting them go for the standard newsstand price!
@ BrittaniMarie: Wait. Was that for real? No...it couldn't be. It has to be a rough draft. I mean I hope it was. Cankles? Desperate? Shit. Girl, go ahead and edit that. We'll pretend that reply never happened because I'M embarrassed for you! I'll check in after my flight. Putting all my faith in you. Make mama proud. xoxo
You guys are ridiculous, lol. It's time to lock this baby up.
